The board has also made it clear that the decision does not mean the end of Bolts illustrious international career. However, New Zealand Cricket (NZC) has said that they will give priority in selection to currently contracted players. Bolt, who has experience of 78 Test matches and over 130 white-ball matches, said he wants to spend more time with his family in the years to come.

He said, “It has been a really difficult decision for me and I want to thank NZC (New Zealand Cricket) for their support in getting to this point. Playing cricket for my country was a childhood dream and for the last 12 years I am very proud of what I have achieved with the Black Caps."

"We respect Trents position," he said. He has come to us with all sincerity about his position and we are saddened to lose him as a fully contracted player, we wish him all the best.

Trent has made a huge contribution to blackcaps since his Test debut in late 2011 and is now regarded as one of the best multi-format cricketers in the world. We are very proud of what he has achieved."

On this occasion, Trent Boult said that this is a very tough decision for me. I take this opportunity to thank the New Zealand Cricket Board for their support.
