England has announced a 12-member squad for the Lord Test
The New Zealand team is currently touring England for a three-match Test series. The first Test match between the two teams will be played at the historic Lord's ground starting June 4. England has announced its 12-member squad for this match. 26-year-old Emilio Gay will make his Test debut for England in the first match.
Additionally, fast bowler Sonny Baker may also get an opportunity to make his debut in this match. On the other hand, fast bowler Ollie Robinson is set to play his first Test match in over two years.
These Three Players Ruled Out of the First Test Match-
The England Cricket Board announced a 15-member squad for this series last month. Three players have been ruled out of the first Test match. The players excluded include James Rew, who was set to make his debut in this match; additionally, leg-spinner Rehan Ahmed and fast bowler Matty Fisher have also been left out of the squad. The Playing XI will be announced on the morning of the Test match.
Brendon McCullum has made a significant statement regarding the selection of the Playing XI:
According to the team's Head Coach, Brendon McCullum, inclement weather is expected next week. Consequently, the final spot in the Playing XI will be contested between two fast bowlers with contrasting styles: Gus Atkinson and Sonny Baker. Only one of these two will be given an opportunity in the team. The Head Coach stated that he would base his decision on the prevailing conditions at the time. If the sun shines brightly and the pitch offers no assistance to the bowlers, he may opt for the bowler who possesses greater pace.
Conversely, if the skies remain overcast and the weather favors the bowlers, he will select the bowler who is adept at generating swing or seam movement off the pitch.
England's 12-member squad for the Lord's Test match:
Ben Stokes (Captain), Gus Atkinson, Sonny Baker, Shoaib Bashir, Jacob Bethell, Harry Brook, Ben Duckett, Emilio Gay, Ollie Robinson, Joe Root, Jamie Smith (Wicketkeeper), Josh Tongue.
