Afghanistan tour of India 2026: Left-handed batsman Hashmatullah Shahidi was appointed captain of the Afghanistan team on Tuesday. The team is set to tour India to play a one-off Test match and a three-match One Day International (ODI) series. The solitary Test match between India and Afghanistan will be played in New Chandigarh from June 6 to June 10. This will be followed by the ODI series, which begins on June 12.
Afghanistan ODI and Test Squads Announced for India Tour
While the ODI squad features players such as Rashid Khan, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, and Ibrahim Zadran, the Test squad strikes a fine balance between seasoned veterans and youthful energy. Rahmat Shah, Gurbaz, and Azmatullah Omarzai have been given an opportunity to feature in the squad.
Wicketkeepers Afsar Zazai and Ikram Alikhil have been selected for the team. Meanwhile, the responsibility for the spin department will rest on the shoulders of Sharafuddin Ashraf and Qais Ahmad. Bilal Sami, Zia Sharifi, and Saleem Safi will spearhead the pace bowling attack.
A Different Combination for ODIs-
Compared to the Test format, Afghanistan has made changes to the team's composition for the ODIs. Experienced players Mohammad Nabi and Rashid Khan have returned to the squad. In addition to Ibrahim Zadran and Sediqullah Atal, Darwish Rasooli will shoulder the responsibility of the batting lineup. Young spinner Ghazanfar has also been given a spot in the ODI squad.
