The International Cricket Council (ICC) released the latest update to their ICC batting rankings in T20I format and it saw former India T20I captain Virat Kohli falling to the 8th spot, while new T20I vice-captain KL Rahul rising to the 5th spot in the T20I batting rankings.

With three fifties in Indias last three matches, KL Rahul moved to No.5. After returning low scores against Pakistan and New Zealand, Rahul was brilliant against Afghanistan, Scotland, and Namibia but the knocks came in too late for India as they exited the tournament in the Super 12 stage.

Indias journey in the ongoing T20 World Cup ended in the Super 12 stage itself. Team India played 5 matches in the World Cup during which KL Rahul scored the maximum 194 runs for his team, while Virat scored only 68 runs.

However, one reason behind Virat scoring fewer runs is that he didnt get many chances to bat as he batted only against Pakistan and New Zealand, and in these two games he scored 57 against Pakistan and 9 against New Zealand. Apart from this, the star batter scored 2* against Scotland.

Apart from these two, South Africa batter Aiden Markram also made huge gains in the rankings, as his unbeaten knock of 52 in just 25 balls in South Africa’s victory over Group 1 table-toppers England saw him climb to the No. 3 spot.

His South African teammate Rassie van der Dussen too broke into the top 10 rankings for batters, climbing six spots to occupy the 10th spot in the latest update. Van der Dussen scored a Player of the Match-winning knock of 94* against England, helping the Proteas post a daunting total of 189.
