After Dravids first refusal, the board had approached many veterans including Mahela Jayawardene, Ricky Ponting, but after the refusal of these veterans, the board again turned to Dravid and BCCI was successful in its second attempt. However, now Ricky Ponting has revealed that he was offered the coachs post by the BCCI. Ponting said that he was offered the position of coach during the IPL. And the people who had contacted him were very adamant to give him this responsibility, but due to the workload he refused to accept this responsibility.

The former Kangaroo captain said that he did not want to give up his IPL coaching and his role as a commentator for Channel 7. But for the post of coach of Team India, I would have had to stay in India for three hundred days. Ponting said that the people who contacted me were very adamant about me, but I said that I cannot give that much time. Means I cant give coaching in IPL, I have to leave Channel-7. In such a situation, it cannot be talked about.
Expressed surprise over Dravids appointment
Ponting has expressed surprise for Dravid to take up this responsibility despite being a young family. Ricky said that I am surprised that Rahul has taken this responsibility. There is talk of how happy he was about his Under-19 role. I dont know much about his family life, but it is known that he has two young sons. Thats why Im surprised.

Great job for Delhi Capitals
It is in front of everyone that Ponting has done a wonderful job for Delhi Capitals. Under his leadership, Delhi Capitals have reached the IPL play-off rounds three times in a row since 2009 and Pontings impact is visible on the team. Once out of this, Delhi also made it to the final. This was the reason that Ponting got caught in the eyes of boss Sourav Ganguly and Sourav was very impressed by the discipline Ponting brings. This was the reason that he made every effort to connect Ponting with Team India.
