Jay Shah may resign from the post of President of Asian Cricket Council (ACC). Shah, who is also working as Secretary in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), will contest the election for the post of ICC President. That is why he can leave the post of ACC.
The Annual General Meeting of ACC is starting from today i.e. Tuesday in Bali, Indonesia. The meeting is for 2 days and will continue till January 31. A decision regarding the broadcasting rights of ACC is also to be taken in the meeting.
The election for the post of ACC President is held once every 2 years, Jay Shah has currently completed one year of his post. It is believed that he will leave his post before the next elections, because he has to contest for the post of ICC Chairman. International Cricket Council (ICC) elections are to be held in November this year, before that it can be decided in the ACC meeting whether Shah will contest the post of ICC Chairman or not.
Members of all the cricket boards of Asia will participate in the annual meeting. In this, a decision will also be taken on ACC media rights. Under which a big tournament like Asia Cup is broadcast. In this, matches of Under-23, Under-19 and Women's Asia Cup are also shown.
Currently, Disney Plus Hotstar has the digital rights and Star has the TV rights. The star had bought the rights 8 years ago. ACC has also invited all the top broadcasters for dinner for the media rights auction.
A decision on the next venue of the Asia Cup is also to be taken in the meeting. Now Asia Cup will be held in 2025, which is to be held in T-20 format. UAE and Oman are in the race for hosting the tournament. The 2023 Asia Cup was hosted by Pakistan in Sri Lanka and Pakistan, which was won by India.
There is another problem in UAE and Oman getting hosting of Asia Cup. Only the full member Asian Board gets the hosting rights of the tournament and both the countries are associate nations. Although the tournament was played in UAE during 2018 and 2022, India and Sri Lanka had the hosting rights then. In such a situation, hosting rights will remain with a full member board only.
