Australian fast bowler Pat Cummins has become the most expensive player in the history of the Indian Premier League. The World Cup 2023-winning captain was sold to Sunrisers Hyderabad for Rs 20.50 crore after an intense bidding war between Chennai Super Kings, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Sunrisers Hyderabad.
SRH were looking for a player with leadership qualities in the bowling department which was lacking in the last two seasons. Under Cummins' leadership, Australia won the World Test Championship 2023 and then the ODI World Cup in November. This bowler had performed brilliantly in the ODI World Cup final in Ahmedabad and took the wickets of Shreyas Iyer and Virat Kohli, due to which the Indian innings was derailed.

While Cummins' bowling has not always been good in T20, the fast bowler has consistently been given a lot of importance in the Indian Premier League. In the 2019 auction, Cummins was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders for a huge price of Rs 15.50 crore.
On Tuesday, December 19, Cummins broke the record of Sam Curran, who was sold for Rs 18.50 crore in the 2023 auction. This was the first time that the Rs 20 crore barrier was broken in an IPL auction, and the news brought cheers across all the auction tables as well as the crowd at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai.
Cummins has been linked with SRH teammate and one of the best international batsmen of recent times, Travis Head. Earlier in the auction the head was bought for Rs 6.8 crore. SRH's buyout signals personnel changes across all departments of the team. It is expected that SRH will get a change in their preferred playing line-up in the upcoming tournament.
