In a format like T20I, there is very little time for any team to recover from a bad start while batting. If there is an early collapse in the batting line-up, there are high chances that the team will end up with a very low score at the end of the 20-overs. Given that the side has to control the run rate as well, the batters are caught in two minds, and it makes the job more difficult. The Indian team also has faced those days when their batsmen failed to deliver in T20Is. In this article, we will be listing out 5 lowest total for India in T20Is.
In the first T20I of Sri Lanka tour of India in 2016, the Indian team was dismissed for only 101 runs. The highest run-scorer for the hosts was Suresh Raina who scored 20 runs off 20 balls. Kasun Rajitha and Dasun Shanaka picked 3 wickets each for the Lankan team.
Chasing this target, the visitors registered an easy victory by 5 wickets. They won the match with 12 balls to spare. Kasun Rajitha was adjudged player of the match in this game for his brilliant bowling.
In the second T20I of South Africa tour of India in 2015, the batters of the home team had a terrible day. The Indian team got all-out for only 92 runs in 17.2 overs after they were asked to bat first. Rohit Sharma and Suresh Raina scored 22 runs each for the hosts, while Albie Morkel picked up three wickets for 12 runs.
The Proteas team won this game quite comfortably by 6 wickets. They chased down the target with 17 balls to spare with JP Duminy contributing 30 runs off 39 balls.
India played with a depleted side during the third T20I against Sri Lanka in 2021. The Indian batsmen failed miserably and the team could manage a score of only 81/8. The team played with only 5 batters, and their contribution was only 29 runs.
