Ranji Trophy Elite 2024-25 is India's premier first-class cricket tournament, which will begin on 11 October 2024 and end on 2 March 2025. A total of 33 teams will participate in this tournament, out of which 32 teams will be in the Elite category and 1 team in the Plate category.
Under the Elite category, 32 teams are divided into four groups, and the top two teams from each group advance to the quarter-finals. Under the Plate category, teams play each other once, and the top four teams qualify for the knockout matches.
The Ranji Trophy 2025 is set to resume on January 23, 2025, featuring a mix of elite and emerging players, including stars like Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant. Matches will be broadcast on Sports 18 Networks and streamed live for free on JioCinema.
The tournament structure is divided into two categories: the Elite category and the Plate category. The Elite category consists of 32 teams, split into four groups, while the Plate category features six teams in a single group. In the Elite category, each team plays against the others in its group once. The top two teams from each group advance to the quarter-finals, keeping the competition intense and highly competitive.
In the Plate category, teams also face each other once in a round-robin format. The top four teams move on to the knockout stage, while the bottom two teams compete for the fifth and sixth positions. Additionally, a third-place playoff is held between the semi-final losers. The two finalists in the Plate category earn promotion to the Elite category for the next season (2025–26), while the bottom two teams across all four Elite groups, determined based on points and quotient, face relegation to the Plate category.
