Before the start of this high-profile ODI series against New Zealand, captain Shubman Gill spoke openly about the team's strategies during a press conference. Gill hinted that there could be major changes to the Indian batting order in the upcoming matches against the Kiwis. He clarified that the team management is fully prepared to adjust their plans based on the prevailing conditions.
Flexible Strategy to Be Adopted in Middle Order
In the pre-match press conference, captain Shubman Gill explained that India would adopt a flexible approach for the middle order. Axar Patel is the only left-handed batter in the squad who features within the top six. Depending on the match situation, the responsibilities of the players will be determined accordingly.
Shubman Gill further added, “Our strategy for the number 5 and number 6 positions will remain flexible. Our top 4 batters are set, and all of them are right-handed. Therefore, if a left-handed batter is required, Axar will come to the crease, and depending on the match situation, KL could also move up the order. So, the batting order is going to be quite flexible.”
