Bangladesh's victory in the first Test of the ongoing two-match series against Pakistan has caused a major shake-up in the points table of the current 2025-27 World Test Championship. The team led by Najmul Hossain Shanto has climbed to the sixth position on the table, while the side captained by Shan Masood has slipped to the seventh spot.
Bangladesh secured a commanding victory by a margin of 104 runs. Captain Shanto played a pivotal role in this win, scoring a magnificent century in the first innings and an excellent 87 runs in the second. Thanks to some superb batting on the batsman-friendly pitch at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka, Bangladesh set a target of 267 runs for Pakistan. On the final day of the match, the visiting team collapsed for just 163 runs, allowing the hosts to register a historic victory.
This also marked Bangladesh's first victory in the current World Cup cycle; prior to this, they had faced a defeat and a draw against Sri Lanka during the opening tour of their campaign.
Turning to the teams at the top of the table, the 2023 champions, Australia, have retained their number one spot following a stellar performance in the Ashes against England and a 3-0 clean sweep against the West Indies. New Zealand sits in second place with a points percentage of 77.78, having secured a 2-0 series victory against the Caribbean side. Defending champions South Africa occupy the third spot, having won three of their four matches played during their tours of Pakistan and India in late 2025.
India currently holds the fifth position; their campaign began with a 2-2 draw against England, followed by a clean sweep against the West Indies on home soil. However, the Indian team faltered badly at home against the Black Caps and the Proteas, and their campaign subsequently derailed as they suffered five consecutive defeats. Their next Test assignment in this World Cup cycle will be the 2027 Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia on home soil.
