Significant news has emerged regarding the T20I series between India and Afghanistan. While there had been uncertainty surrounding the first match of the three-game series scheduled for Delhi, crucial information has now come to light. The T20I series between India and Afghanistan is set to begin on September 13.

Previously, there was uncertainty about hosting the opening match in Delhi due to the BRICS summit; however, the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) has now clarified the situation. The DDCA has confirmed that the first T20I match between India and Afghanistan will indeed be played on September 13.

The Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) has announced on X that the first T20I match between India and Afghanistan, scheduled for September 13 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, will take place as planned. Following a meeting with the Delhi Traffic Police, the DDCA has been assured of all necessary cooperation and arrangements. The match will not be postponed.

Why did the Delhi Police request a change of date?

The BRICS summit is scheduled to take place in Delhi between September 11 and 13. High-ranking leaders and VVIP guests from several countries are expected to attend the event. Consequently, the Delhi Police faces the major responsibility of managing security and traffic arrangements. For this reason, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) wrote to the DDCA, requesting that the date of the first T20I match between India and Afghanistan be changed.

The police state that strict security and traffic measures will be in place in the capital during the summit, which could create additional challenges for hosting the match.

There were also discussions about holding it on September 14

Following a request from the police, there was speculation that the match might be pushed back by a day to September 14. A suggestion was also made to hold the match on the day of Ganesh Chaturthi. However, no official decision regarding this change was taken, and the DDCA has now announced that the match will indeed take place on September 13.

All matches of the three-game T20I series between India and Afghanistan will be played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium; the first match is scheduled for September 13, the second for September 15, and the third for September 17.
