Ravichandran Ashwin had to work hard not to cry. He was not prepared to release his feelings, in contrast to the ball in his palm or the words that came out of his mouth. But the whole narrative was told through his eyes and his bashful smile. Prithi, his wife, was wearing a similar expression. Too young to comprehend the significance of the moment, Ashwin's two kids were giggling and trying not to move as India head coach Rahul Dravid gave a moving speech summarizing Ashwin's career.
It's not simple. How can a speech like this do a cricketer like Ashwin justice in a few minutes? David gave it his all. As a speaker in the Indian dressing room, he has somewhat of a reputation.
Watching his remarks when he gave Akash Deep the Test hat in Ranchi was amazing.
Dravid's words were sufficient in this instance to make Ashwin's stomach turn.
Ashwin's glittering cricket career has been filled with many memorable moments, including two in this series where he became the second-fastest player in the world to take 500 Test wickets and another where he defeated Anil Kumble to become the highest wicket-taker in Test matches played in India, this may hold a different place in the great off-spinners career. Ultimately, this is his 100th test. He became the 14th cricket player from India to reach a unique century in this format.
Ashwin received a unique 100th Test cap from the BCCI. When Dravid had concluded his remarks, he handed it over. Ashwin retrieved the cap from a glass cabinet and gave it to his daughter right away.
The unique salutations to Ashwin were not yet complete. The Indian players lined up to offer Ashwin a guard of honour before moving out into the centre, which was a fantastic display of support.
