South African speedster Nandre Burger has been officially ruled out of the ongoing Major League Cricket (MLC) 2026 season. The left-arm quick suffered a recurrence of a pre-existing back injury, forcing him to withdraw from the tournament.

According to an official statement by the Texas Super Kings, recent scans revealed a stress reaction in his back. Burger will now fly back home for a "prolonged period of rest and rehabilitation."

The Replacement: Dian Forrester Steps In

The Texas Super Kings have wasted no time in naming Burger's replacement, roping in fellow South African Dian Forrester.

Forrester is a rising batting all-rounder who made his international debut for South Africa against New Zealand earlier this year, featuring in five T20Is. He brings a dynamic skillset to the squad, boasting a career T20 strike rate of 140 alongside 14 wickets in 39 matches.

Interestingly, Forrester is already a familiar face within the Super Kings ecosystem. He has previously represented:

  • Joburg Super Kings in the SA20 (2025/26 season)
  • Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in IPL 2026, where he joined as an injury replacement for Jamie Overton.
  • He also recently toured England with the South Africa 'A' squad.

Burger's Brief MLC 2026 Stint & Injury History

The 30-year-old Burger featured in only two games for Texas Super Kings this season. He bowled his full four-over quota in the tournament opener against Seattle Orcas and managed two overs against San Francisco Unicorns, where he dismissed opener Finn Allen. He was subsequently replaced by Adam Milne for the third match before the scans confirmed the severity of his injury.

Unfortunately, back issues have plagued the left-arm pacer's career:

  • October 2024: Ruled out of the Ireland series and Bangladesh Tests due to a lumbar stress reaction, which also sidelined him for the SA20.

  • November 2021: Suffered a severe lower back injury that wiped out his entire domestic season, keeping him out of action for nearly a year.
  • December 2025/IPL Connection: Suffered a hamstring injury during the India ODI series, but recovered to play 13 matches for Rajasthan Royals in the IPL, picking up 14 wickets.
