Indian team fast bowler Akash Deep tied the knot with Akshita Raj in Varanasi on June 24. The ceremony, held at a hotel, was conducted in a deeply traditional and intimate family setting.
As photos and videos of the wedding went viral on social media, fans noticed that Indian cricket legends—Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and MS Dhoni—were nowhere to be seen at the celebrations. This sparked a discussion online: why hadn't Akash Deep invited these senior players? Now, Akash Deep himself has revealed a very practical reason behind this decision.
"If they had come, the wedding wouldn't have been peaceful"
A video from the wedding is rapidly going viral on social media, in which a guest directly asks Akash Deep whether he had sent invitations to Virat, Rohit, and Dhoni.
The 29-year-old fast bowler responded with a smile and an interesting answer. Akash said:
"If I had invited these legendary players, it would have been extremely difficult to hold the wedding peacefully in Varanasi."
Akash Deep was clearly alluding to the massive craze and huge fan following these star cricketers command. Had these big names attended the wedding, thousands of fans would have gathered outside the hotel, making security management difficult and altering the entire atmosphere of the event. Akash wanted this special day of his life to pass simply, surrounded only by family and close ones, without any fanfare or chaos.
Pawan Singh also arrived to offer blessings
Fans are also loving the photos from the pre-wedding Haldi and Mehndi ceremonies.
While few cricketers were seen at this private ceremony, Bhojpuri cinema's 'Power Star' and singer Pawan Singh made a special appearance to congratulate and bless the newlyweds.Akash Deep sidelined from cricket due to injury
Talking about cricket, Akash Deep has been struggling with a back injury for some time. This issue also prevented him from participating in IPL 2026. Currently, he is working on his fitness and rehabilitation in Bengaluru.
Fans still remember the remarkable feat of this bowler—who has claimed 28 wickets in 10 Test matches for India so far—taking 10 wickets in the Edgbaston Test against England. It is anticipated that he might return to the field during the upcoming home Test series against Sri Lanka.
