India Tour of Bangladesh: Team India's tour of Bangladesh could be postponed; BCB President Tamim Iqbal hints at possibility
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) could face another major setback from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). BCB President Tamim Iqbal has hinted that the Indian team's upcoming tour of Bangladesh might once again be postponed or rescheduled. According to an ESPNcricinfo report, discussions regarding the tour are currently underway between the two boards.
Uncertainty surrounds the tour, official statement from BCCI awaited
As per the original schedule, India was initially supposed to visit Bangladesh last year, a trip that was later rescheduled for September 2026. According to the BCB, the tour was slated to feature a series of three ODIs and three T20 matches in Dhaka and Chattogram. However, the BCCI has not yet released an official schedule for the tour. Although the first ODI was proposed for September 3, uncertainty remains regarding the series taking place, with just two weeks left before the scheduled start.
Domestic tournament schedule adds to the uncertainty
During a press conference in Dhaka, Tamim Iqbal announced 'The Game Development Trophy' (an age-group tournament), with all matches scheduled to be played at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium (Mirpur) between August 28 and September 9.
When asked if this meant the tour of India had been cancelled, he clarified:- Discussions regarding a change of dates are underway between the two boards.
- If the Indian team's tour is confirmed, the domestic tournament will be immediately shifted to the Basundhara Ground.
Recent Controversy and Efforts to Mend Relations
Tensions in cricketing relations between the two nations arose when the previous BCB administrative committee objected to sending the team to the T20 World Cup—co-hosted by India—following Mustafizur Rahman's exclusion from the IPL. However, the new BCB President, Tamim Iqbal, has recently taken steps towards normalizing relations by visiting the BCCI's 'Centre of Excellence' in Bengaluru.
