Juventus have announced the departure of defender Danilo, whose contract has been terminated by mutual agreement. The Brazilian international's five-and-a-half-year stint in Turin comes to an end, leaving a legacy of dedication and success.
Danilo, who joined the Serie A giants in 2019, made 213 appearances for the Bianconeri, scoring nine goals. A stalwart in defense, he was a consistent presence in the Juventus lineup, contributing to their triumphs in Serie A, the Italian Super Cup, and the Coppa Italia (twice). His last game for the club was against Venezia in December of last year.
In a heartfelt message posted on social media, Danilo expressed his gratitude to the club and its fans. “Dear Bianconeri, I don't even know where to begin,” he wrote. “I knew this day would come sooner or later, but one is never ready for goodbyes. Five and a half years have passed, but to me, it feels like an entire lifetime.” He emphasized his unwavering commitment to the club, stating, “What fills me with a sense of pride, in some way, is that I have never changed my way of being, nor my way of defending the most important club in my history.” Danilo also apologized to the fans for any shortcomings, while assuring them of his tireless effort and dedication. “Thank you for everything, a hug from the captain, goodbye!” he concluded.
A veteran of the 2018 and 2022 World Cups with Brazil, Danilo's European journey has seen him collect league titles with Porto, Real Madrid, Manchester City, and finally, Juventus. His experience and leadership will be missed in Turin.
Meanwhile, Juventus are bolstering their squad with the arrival of Chelsea defender Renato Veiga. The 21-year-old Portuguese international has arrived in Turin for a medical and is expected to join the club on loan. Veiga's arrival offers fresh options for Juventus as they navigate the remainder of the season.
Danilo's next chapter will see him compete in the revamped 32-team Club World Cup, kicking off on June 14th in the United States. He joins Flamengo, who have been drawn in a group alongside Chelsea, León, and Espérance. Interestingly, Juventus will also be participating in the tournament, facing Manchester City, Wydad, and Al Ain in their group. Danilo departs one Club World Cup-qualified team for another, marking an exciting new challenge in his career.
