There is not much time left for the T20 World Cup 2024 to start. The biggest thing is that it is not decided who will be the captain of the Indian team in the upcoming T20 World Cup. Rohit Sharma is captaining the Indian team in the Afghanistan series.
T20 World Cup 2024 is to be played in America and West Indies in the month of June. There are less than five months left for the start of this T20 World Cup. But the Indian team has not been able to find its right combination yet. There are many problems visible in Team India coached by Rahul Dravid.
It is not decided who will be the captain of the Indian team in the T20 World Cup. The Indian team is being captained in the Afghanistan series by Rohit Sharma, who has played a T20 International match after a long time. Dravid has made it clear that these three matches will not be the basis of selection for the T20 World Cup. Dravid also emphasized that the World Cup team will be selected only on the basis of performance in IPL 2024. In such a situation, if the performance of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli is not good in the upcoming IPL, then they may have to stay out of the World Cup also. The names of Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav and Rohit Sharma are among the main contenders for the captaincy of the Indian team for the World Cup. Surya and Hardik are currently suffering from injuries and the date of their return to the field has not been decided. In such a situation, Rohit Sharma's claim for captaincy seems strong.

The biggest issue will be regarding the selection of wicketkeeper for the T20 World Cup. Recently, Jitesh Sharma and Ishan Kishan were selected in the team as wicketkeeper batsmen for the T20 series against Australia and South Africa. Then, along with Jitesh, Sanju Samson also got a place in the team in the Afghanistan series.
Jitesh has played eight T20 matches so far, but his performance has not been anything special. Jitesh has been able to score only 100 runs at an average of 16.66. Ishan Kishan and Sanju Samson have also been successful in performing well in some parts. Ishaan has scored 796 runs in 32 T20 matches at an average of 25.67. Whereas Sanju Samson has scored 374 runs after playing 24 T20 matches.
Apart from Jitesh, Ishaan and Sanju, India also has the option of KL Rahul. However, Rahul played his last T20 International match in November 2022. Rahul will have a chance to woo the selectors through IPL. If Rahul performs well in IPL then he may get lottery as a wicketkeeper. Anyway, Rahul is in great form and he has also made a comeback in Test cricket after the South African series.
Nothing has been decided yet regarding the opening slot, middle order and bowling unit. Along with Rohit Sharma, young players like Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal are in the race for the opening slot. Rinku Singh, Shreyas Iyer, Tilak Verma and Shivam Dubey are also staking their claim for the middle order. It will be difficult to ignore Mukesh Kumar, Ravi Bishnoi, Yuzvendra Chahal and Arshdeep Singh in the bowling unit.
The Indian team has not won any ICC title since the 2013 Champions Trophy. Even in the year 2023, India got two golden opportunities to win the ICC title, but both times it had to be defeated by the Australian team in the finals. Now India is going to get another chance to end this drought through T20 World Cup 2024.
The upcoming T20 World Cup is scheduled to be played in West Indies and USA from June 1 to June 29. The tournament of 20 teams will be played in a total of 3 stages including knockouts. All 20 teams will be divided into 4 groups of 5 each. The top-2 teams of each group will enter the Super-8. After this, all the 8 teams will be divided into 2 groups of 4 each. In the Super-8 stage, the top two teams of both the groups will enter the semi-finals. Two teams will reach the final through two semi-final matches.
