Why Is Sanju Samson Failing Continuously?: Sanju Samson is the latest example of how quickly fortunes can shift in Indian cricket. Until a few months ago, Shubman Gill was struggling with poor form, while Sanju had earned a spot in the playing 11 thanks to his impressive performances. Today, however, the script has completely flipped; Sanju is facing a string of failures, and a young 15-year-old sensation waiting in the wings is ready to take his place.

What exactly is the reason behind this slump in Sanju Samson's form? Let’s break it down simply and precisely.

3 Main Reasons Behind Sanju Samson's Slump in Form

Sanju Samson’s frequent in-and-out status with the Indian team is nothing new, but this time, his poor performance has raised concerns for the team management. A look at Irfan Pathan’s statements and statistics from recent matches reveals three main reasons behind this slump:

1. Poor Form and Consecutive Failures in the Last 3 T20Is

The recent period has been deeply disappointing for Sanju Samson. After failing to fire in the early matches of IPL 2026, his bat has remained quiet in international cricket as well. He has failed to even reach double digits (10 runs) in his last three consecutive matches. He was bowled out in the first T20I against Ireland and returned to the pavilion for a very low score in the opening match against England.

2. Technical Flaw: Irfan Pathan Decodes Samson's Weakness

It is not just poor form behind Sanju's failures; there is also a significant technical flaw. Former all-rounder Irfan Pathan highlighted this issue, stating:

"Bowlers are delivering the ball outside Sanju Samson's off-stump. When playing, the face of Sanju's bat remains closed. When he attempts to play a shot towards the off-side with a closed bat face, the ball catches the edge of the bat."

Sanju fell victim to this exact weakness during the matches against Ireland and England. Bowlers have now identified this flaw and are consistently trapping him by bowling deliveries outside the off-stump.

3. Double Pressure: The Rise of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi

Sanju is currently facing pressure from two sides: on one hand, his own poor form, and on the other, the looming presence of 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi waiting on the bench.

Vaibhav scored 776 runs at a strike rate of 237.30 for the Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2026 and was named 'Player of the Tournament.' India suffered a humiliating 2-0 series defeat in Ireland, a tour where Vaibhav did not get a chance to play. Now, he is awaiting his debut in the ongoing five-match T20 series against England.
