The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the Indian squad for the ODI series against England on Sunday, June 21. The team is high on confidence following a 'clean sweep' (winning all matches) in the previous ODI series against Afghanistan; they had won all three of those matches comfortably. The upcoming schedule includes a short T20 International series against Ireland later this month, followed by a five-match series against England next month. After the T20 International series against England, a three-match ODI series will be played from July 14 to 19.
Harry Brook and his team are known for their dominance on home soil, where conditions favor seamers and fast bowlers rather than spinners. This means the three-match series will pose a significant challenge for the team led by Shubman Gill, while also serving as an excellent opportunity to prepare for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2027.
The Indian cricket team is set to tour England in July, and the squad for the ODI series has been announced; Virat Kohli has returned, although the board has clarified that his participation will depend on his fitness. Jasprit Bumrah, who was rested for the home series against Afghanistan, has also been included in the squad.
Players dropped from the Indian squad for the ODI matches against England
1. Yashasvi Jaiswal
Yashasvi Jaiswal scored an unbeaten 110 runs in the third ODI against Afghanistan, whereas he had managed a total of only 28 runs (24 and 4) across the first two matches. Following his century, there was speculation that the board might consider selecting him for the squad, but he was not included in the team for the England tour. It is worth noting that Jaiswal had stepped in to play in place of Virat Kohli during the ODI series against Afghanistan.
2. Mohammed Siraj
Indian fast bowler Mohammed Siraj has not been included in the squad for the ODI series against England; prior to this, he had also been left out of the T20 squad for the tours of Ireland and England. Gurnoor Brar has been given the opportunity in Siraj's place, marking his first overseas tour with the national team. Siraj has played 50 ODIs for India and taken 76 wickets.
3. Harsh Dubey
Harsh Dubey recently made his debut in the ODI series against Afghanistan. He took three wickets in his debut match in Dharamsala and claimed one wicket in the third ODI played in Chennai. Although his performance was good, he could not secure a spot for the England tour.
4. Prince Yadav
After an impressive performance in IPL 2026, Indian fast bowler Prince Yadav was included in the ODI squad against Afghanistan. He made his debut in the second ODI played in Lucknow, where he took two wickets, and also claimed a wicket in Chennai. He has not been included in the ODI squad for the England tour.
5. Rishabh Pant
Rishabh Pant has not been part of the Indian ODI team for quite some time; he played his last ODI International match in August 2024. He was not selected for the England tour either. He has scored 871 runs in 27 innings across 31 ODI matches for India. Rishabh Pant should be given an opportunity in ODIs so that he can prove his mettle.
