India's dream of winning the Test series in South Africa was shattered once again. Team India had to face defeat in the first test by an innings and 32 runs. India has never suffered such a big defeat in South Africa in its 31 year history. Team India captain Rohit Sharma considered poor batting to be the main reason for the defeat in the first test. In this match, South Africa won the toss and invited India to bat first. Team India scored 245 runs in the first innings. KL Rahul scored 101 runs in 137 balls with the help of 14 fours and 4 sixes. Kagiso Rabada was the most successful bowler for South Africa, he took 5 wickets. In reply, South Africa scored 408 runs in its first innings and got a huge lead of 163 runs. Dean Elgar faced 287 balls and scored 185 runs, which included 28 fours. Whereas Marco Janson scored unbeaten 84 runs with the help of 11 fours and one six.
Jasprit Bumrah took four wickets and Mohammad Siraj took two wickets in the first innings for India. Then India was reduced to 131 runs in the second innings. Only Virat Kohli could perform brilliantly for India in the second innings. Kohli scored 76 runs in 82 balls with the help of 12 fours and one six. For South Africa, Nandre Berger took four wickets and Marco Jansson took three wickets.
