U Mumba struggled last season, finishing 10th, and will look to improve in PKL 9. The former champions will be without their former captain Fazel Atrachali, who left the club after seven seasons to join Puneri Paltan. Rinku will be expected to lead the team and guide the defence in his absence. Surinder Singh and Harendra Kumar will provide valuable assistance to Rinku.
Fazel Atrachali was the teams public face. The team, however, decided to release their talisman. They were also unable to repurchase him at auction. Based on the auction moves, it was clear that U Mumbai was interested in hiring Pawan Sehrawat. However, because the Tamil Thalaivas bid exceeded INR 2 crores, U Mumbai was forced to focus on other targets.
While PKL 8 performers like Rinku and Rahul Sethpal were retained, the team aggressively pursued Guman Singh and Gholamabbas Korouki. Its a young team with a lot of promise. It will be interesting to see how they perform next season.
