Lahore Qalandars’ pace spearhead Shaheen Afridi, while talking to Cricket Pakistan, appeared optimistic about his team’s chances ahead of the resumption of the Habib Bank Limited (HBL) Pakistan Super League (PSL) season six.

The 21-year-old claimed that the team had gelled well together and would try to continue their momentum as the tournament resumes.

“I think the way we started the PSL, the players gelled together very well. This time too we will try to continue the same [momentum] the way we started. We will try out best to win the trophy for Lahore Qalandars,” Afridi said.

“You always try to give good performances for your team. I want to give my 100 percent to my team. Taking wickets or not is in my hands. It is my wish that my efforts benefit the team. I have started well and will try to finish well too,” he added

The pacer praised Pakistan’s skipper Babar Azam while revealing that he was his favorite cricketer. He also opened up about dismissing Azam during a match against Karachi Kings before HBL PSL 6 was suspended.

“Babar [Azam] no doubt is the world’s number one player. He is my favorite as well. I enjoy a lot when bowling to him in the nets too. I think at that time, my team needed his wicket and I got that breakthrough. I was very friendly with him,” he said.

Shaheen also revealed that he keeps working hard on his varieties while vowing to strive hard to follow in the footsteps of legendary former pacer Wasim Akram.

“A bowler needs a variety that is their main weapon. I use yorkers more in T20s and towards the end in ODIs. With the new ball, you get some help initially with some swing. I keep trying in the nets and work on these variations. Whenever I feel good about something in nets, then I try it in a match,” he said.

“Wasim [Akram] Bhai, the way he has served for Pakistan, I would also try to follow in his footsteps and learn bowling like him. He is such a big legend. I want to serve Pakistan just like he has and play with pride,” he concluded
