The Indian cricket team has suffered a major setback ahead of the three-match ODI series against England and the T20 series against Zimbabwe. Harshit Rana and Varun Chakravarthy, who sustained injuries during the T20 series against England, have now been ruled out of both the England and Zimbabwe series. Varun Chakravarthy, a key spinner for India in the white-ball format, played the first three T20 Internationals against England. The right-arm spinner claimed one wicket each in the first two matches but went wicketless in the third.
Harshit Rana was part of the T20 International series against Ireland in June, where he took a total of four wickets across two matches. He did not get a chance to bowl in the first match against England, as the game was abandoned due to rain after the first innings. He claimed one and two wickets in the second and third T20 Internationals, respectively. Subsequently, neither Rana nor Chakravarthy was included in the squad for the fourth and fifth T20 Internationals scheduled for July 9 in Bristol. At the toss, Iyer revealed that both players were unavailable for selection due to injuries.
Now, both players have been ruled out of the upcoming tournaments as well. Harshit is out of the ODI series against England, while Varun will miss the T20 series against Zimbabwe.
Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) issued an official statement saying: Harshit Rana experienced sudden discomfort in his right hamstring during the third T20 International against England at Trent Bridge. Scans revealed a Grade 1 hamstring injury. He has been ruled out of the upcoming ODI series against England and will report to the BCCI's Centre of Excellence (CoE) for further assessment and treatment.
Chakravarthy suddenly felt discomfort in his left hamstring during the third T20 International match against England. An MRI scan revealed a Grade 2 hamstring injury. Acting on expert advice, he has been ruled out of the upcoming T20 International series against Zimbabwe. He will consult the BCCI CEO regarding further treatment.
Prince Yadav and Ravi Bishnoi replaced Harshit Rana and Varun Chakravarthy
The BCCI has included Prince Yadav in the Indian squad for the ODI series against England, replacing Rana. Following Chakravarthy's withdrawal, spinner Ravi Bishnoi has been named in the T20 International squad for the series against Zimbabwe. Both Prince and Bishnoi were part of the T20 International squad for the series against Ireland and England.
BCCI said: The men's selection committee has included Prince Yadav and Ravi Bishnoi in India's ODI and T20 International squads, replacing Harshit Rana and Varun Chakravarthy.
