New Fast bowling contracts: BCCI's best move for Improving Pacers

Fast bowling contracts for five players are one of the new elements of the Central Contracts, which were revealed last month. The national selection committee suggested that Akash Deep, Vijaykumar Vyshak, Umran Malik, Yash Dayal, and Vidwath Kaverappa be awarded these contracts, according to a release issued by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on February 28. The BCCI did not, however, offer any more information on this subject.

These five pacers will receive free access to the National Cricket Academy (NCA), which is normally only available to contractual players, according to further queries. They will be allowed to use the academy's other facilities, receive rehabilitation, and train for free. The NCA can take care of their insurance.

According to the NCA regulations, non-contracted players can also utilize its facilities, but only upon the recommendation from their respective state associations. Moreover, the state associations are required to cover the expenses for the recommended players.

In this regard, the bowlers holding fast bowling contracts will not be reliant on their state associations. Umran, Akash Deep, Vyshak, Dayal, and Kaverappa can directly go to the NCA, like any other centrally contracted player.

The financial advantages for these players have not been disclosed by the BCCI. It has also not revealed the payment schedule for regular gamers. The retainership for the selected pacers, meanwhile, is rumored to be similar to that of C Grade players—that is, Rs 1 crore—according to contracts that were made public last year.

"Fabulous move," said Bharat Arun. "They are creating a pool of fast bowlers and making them avail the best of know-how from the NCA. These bowlers will have access to the best of physiotherapy and strength and conditioning expertise which would not be as good in their states. Besides, they will learn from the NCA coaches. It is an excellent and much-needed decision," said the former India bowling coach welcoming the decision.
