Over 11,000 troops from various agencies including Gujarat Police, NSG, RAF and Home Guards will be deployed at the Narendra Modi Stadium and Ahmedabad for the high voltage clash between India and Pakistan on October 14. A senior official gave this information on Monday.
The official said that high level security arrangements will be made in view of the threats being received regarding the India vs Pakistan match. Ahmedabad Police Commissioner GS Malik said that even though Ahmedabad has not seen any communal violence during cricket matches in the last 20 years, security forces will be deployed in several communally sensitive areas as a precaution.
Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Monday morning held a meeting with Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghvi, state DGP Vikas Sahay, GS Malik and other senior police officials in Gandhinagar to review the police action plan to ensure that high-profile cases are carried out without any hassles. Sports events can be organised.
GS Malik told the press conference in the evening that the Chief Minister reviewed the security preparations and instructed the police to take such steps so that no untoward incident happens during the match. GS Malik said that more than one lakh spectators are expected to come to the stadium, keeping this in mind security arrangements have been made. Let it be known that an unknown person had threatened through e-mail.
GS Malik said that we will deploy 4,000 home guards besides more than 7,000 police personnel to keep the grounds safe. Law and order should be maintained in sensitive areas during the Maidan. Apart from this, we will also deploy three hit teams and anti-drone team of NSC. Our 9 bomb detection teams and disposal squad will also be used.
GS Malik said, apart from 13 companies of State Reserve Police (SRP), we will deploy three companies of Rapid Action Force as part of our security arrangements. The RAF will keep an eye on communally sensitive areas of the city. We have already prepared an evacuation plan to help people in case of stampede and rehearsals are also going on in the stadium.
He said that in case of any chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear emergency, SDRF and NDRF will also be deployed in the city. According to reports, Mumbai Police received an e-mail in which an unidentified person threatened to harm the Prime Minister and also blow up the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The person sending the e-mail demanded Rs 500 crore and the release of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi from jail.
We have detected such a threat and have planned our deployment accordingly, GS Malik said. When more than one lakh spectators are coming to the match, it is necessary to make more security arrangements. We are also keeping in mind that this will be a sensitive match and it may cause communal anxiety. City police is ready to deal with any situation
