Amid growing speculation that Gautam Gambhir might leave Lucknow Super Giants and join his former Indian Premier League franchise Kolkata Knight Riders, the two-time World Cup winner is going nowhere, according to reports. With the upcoming edition of the IPL still a few months away, both Gambhir and LSG have plenty of time to mull over the decision. Meanwhile, on Friday, LSG appointed former Australia coach Justin Langer as their new head coach.
Langer replaced Andy Flower, whose contract had expired. Langer took charge of Australia in 2018 after the sandpaper gate. During his tenure, Australia defeated England 4–0 in the Ashes series, won the 2019 Ashes and also won the T20 World Cup in 2021.
Apart from this, Perth Scorchers also won the Big Bash title three times under the guidance of Langer. On joining LSG as head coach, Langer said, “Lucknow Super Giants are on a journey to create a great story in the IPL. We all have a role to play in that journey and I'm excited to be part of the team moving forward.
Langer’s last coaching stint was with the Australian team in 2018. The southpaw took over the reins after Sandpaper Saga and helped Australia win Ashes 2018-19 and also T20 World Cup in 2021.
Langer also coached Perth Scorchers and also has won three Big Bash League trophies. The former Australia opener is thrilled to coach LSG and believes he has a lot to offer for the franchise on their new journey.
