The BCCI on Friday announced Team India for the Asian Games 2023. To everyone's surprise, the Indian selectors have given Ruturaj Gaikwad the command of the team for this tournament. Whereas Shikhar Dhawan could not even make a place in the team. Gabbar played his last international match in the year 2022.
Shikhar Dhawan's non-selection in the team is definitely a bit shocking. Gabbar landed in the year 2022 for the last time wearing the jersey of the Indian team. He played his last ODI match against Bangladesh in December. Dhawan's bat was silent in this series and he scored only 18 runs in three matches. However, after the flop in this series, Dhawan did not return to the ODI team. The left-handed batsman's record of 6,793 runs in 167 ODIs at an average of 44.11 is not so bad that he should not be given chances.

In the year 2022, Dhawan played 22 ODIs and scored 688 runs at an average of 34, including six half-centuries. There, in 2021, Gabbar scored 297 runs at an average of 59.40. Dhawan's relationship with the T20 team has already been severed. The format of the Asian Games 2023 is also fast and probably because of this he has not been kept in the team. However, despite having an impeccable record in ODIs, Dhawan's omission is a bit surprising.
