Five-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are in trouble in this edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led Yellow Army is currently at the bottom of the points table. Their batting has mostly been poor, while their bowlers have been unable to take regular wickets. Looking at the history of IPL, the Super Kings have had trouble against some bowlers who have bowled brilliantly in some matches.
Rajasthan Royals pacer Sohail Tanvir had a stellar season in the inaugural IPL in 2008 where he helped Rajasthan Royals beat Super Kings by eight wickets at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. The Pakistani left-arm pacer picked up six wickets for just 14 runs in four overs, dismissing the likes of Parthiv Patel, Stephen Fleming, Vidit Sivaramakrishnan, Albie Morkel, Muttiah Muralitharan and Makhaya Ntini as CSK were bundled out for just 109 in 19 overs.
Harbhajan Singh was playing for Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai in 2011. Mumbai Indians batted first and scored 164 runs for the loss of four wickets. Rohit Sharma played a stormy innings of 87 runs in 48 balls. Super Kings could only score 156 runs for the loss of nine wickets, Harbhajan Singh took five wickets for just 18 runs in four overs at an economy of 4.50.
Zaheer Khan gave his best performance in 2013 while playing against Super Kings at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. RCB batted first and scored 106 runs for the loss of 2 wickets. Zaheer Khan took 4 wickets for 17 runs in just two overs and dismissed players like Michael Hussey, Suresh Raina, captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja and restricted CSK to just 82 runs. RCB won the match by 24 runs.
Trent Boult was representing Mumbai Indians in Sharjah in 2020. The Super Kings managed to score only 114 runs for the loss of nine wickets. Boult bowled an impressive spell of 4/18 in his four overs, with an economy rate of just 4.50. In response, batsmen Quinton de Kock and Ishan Kishan batted and finished the game in just 12.2 overs, helping Mumbai Indians win the match by 10 wickets.
Playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Harshal Patel performed brilliantly against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on April 25, 2025 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai during the IPL 2025 season. He took 4 wickets for 28 runs in his 4 overs, for which he received the Player of the Match award. His bowling was crucial in restricting CSK to 154 runs.
