Australia Squad Announced for India Test Series

For the forthcoming Border-Gavaskar trophy series in India, which will begin on February 9th, Australia has named an 18-person squad. The travelling team to India consists of four spinners, with rising sensation Todd Murphy competing with Mitchell Swepson and Ashton Agar to be Nathan Lyons spin partner.

Despite being unable to play in the first Test against India due to a finger tendon injury sustained during the Boxing Day Test against South Africa, Mitchell Starc was nonetheless selected for the four-game Border-Gavaskar Trophy commencing on February 9. Prior to the second Test in New Delhi, the left-arm fast will be a member of the Australian team. All-rounder Cameron Green, who also had a finger injury during the South Africa series, is also a questionable starter. However, Green should be available beginning with the first game of the series in Nagpur.

The 18-man Australian team for the India tour had a few significant shocks. While seasoned hitter Peter Handscomb was returned, uncapped spinner Todd Murphy was added to Australias Test team as a possible Nathan Lyon spin partner.

For the four-Test series in Nagpur, Delhi, Dharamsala, and Ahmedabad in February and March, Australia will bring four spinners, including Mitchell Swepson and Ashton Agar.

Uncapped quick Lance Morris was retained in the squad as a back-up.

Opener Marcus Harris, who was in the squad for their last Test against South Africa in Sydney last week, missed out.
