3 Infamous Instances Of MS Dhoni's Career Where He Lost His Cool During A Game

Mahendra Singh Dhoni, for whom even the word cool isn't cool enough. The man, the myth, the legend – Dhoni has rightly earned the title of ‘Captain Cool’.

Over the years, MS Dhoni has impressed one and all with his cool and calm persona. In fact, he is known for absorbing all the pressure in tense situations and getting the best out of his team. However, there have been a few rare instances when MSD did lose his cool during a game.

Here, in this article, we bring you a list of 3 infamous instances when MS Dhoni lost his cool and left the fans shocked.

1. When MS Dhoni argued with Billy Bowden over 3rd umpire goof-up:

It was in 2012 when MS Dhoni first broke his image of 'Captain Cool' after he was involved in a heated argument with the on-field umpire Billy Bowden during an ODI match between Australia and India in the CB series in 2012.

The incident took place after Dhoni appealed for a stumping against Michael Hussey of Suresh Raina's bowling. The decision was sent to the third umpire. While the replays showed Hussey returning safely inside the crease before Dhoni broke the stumps, the big screen showed ‘OUT’.

Upon realizing the mistake, the on-field umpire, Billy Bowden, ran towards Hussey, who was walking towards the dressing room. Dhoni was left frustrated with the chain of events as he approached Bowden and had a fierce argument with the umpire.

2. When MS Dhoni gave it back to Mustafizur Rahman for blocking his way:

Dhoni lost his cool at Bangladeshi cricketer Mustafizur Rahman for blocking his way. Both the cricketers were involved in an ugly collision during the 1st ODI match of the 3-match series between India and Bangladesh in 2015.

Interestingly, Mustafizur was playing his debut match for the Bangladesh cricket team, and Dhoni was still the captain of the Indian cricket team.

The Indian cricket team was chasing a total of 308 runs when the incident took place in the 25th over of their chase. MS Dhoni ran for a quick single after playing the delivery to the mid-off region, however, Mustafizur moved towards the path of the batter, trying to block his way.

Notably, this wasn't the first time in the innings that Mustafizur played this dirty trick with the Indian players. He was earlier involved in a similar incident with the Indian opener Rohit Sharma.

The constant poking by Mustafizur Rahman led to MS Dhoni losing his cool and running into the Bangladeshi pacer and shoving him out of the way with his forearm. Though, the collision wasn’t that severe but MS Dhoni warned the bowler not to mess with him by pointing his fingers toward him.
