Hyderabad, March 21: The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Hyderabad, has issued a fresh weather alert predicting thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds over the weekend. An orange alert has been sounded for several districts across Telangana, while Hyderabad is likely to witness moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by lightning on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (March 22-24).
Thunderstorm and Lightning Warning in Hyderabad
According to IMD Hyderabad, the city is expected to remain under a generally cloudy sky with intermittent spells of thunderstorms and lightning from Friday to Sunday. Gusty winds, reaching 30-40 km/h, may accompany these storms. The weather department has issued a yellow alert for Hyderabad, urging residents to remain cautious as localized heavy rainfall and lightning strikes are possible during this period.
Orange Alert Issued for Several Telangana Districts
Besides Hyderabad, the IMD has placed multiple Telangana districts under an orange alert due to the increased likelihood of severe weather conditions. The districts include:
- Mahabubnagar
- Warangal
- Mulugu
- Jayashankar Bhupalpally (J Bhupalpally)
- Karimnagar
- Peddapalle
- Mancherial
- Rajanna Sircilla
- Jagtial
- Adilabad
- Kumaram Bheem Asifabad
A noticeable drop in temperatures has been recorded across Telangana in the past 24 hours. The maximum temperature in Bhadradri Kothagudem dropped to 39.9°C, while Hyderabad recorded a high of 39.4°C in Bahadurpura. With the anticipated thunderstorms and cloud cover, further dips in temperature are expected over the weekend, providing relief from the ongoing heatwave.
What to Expect Next Week?
The weather pattern suggests that the state will continue to witness cloudy skies with isolated thunderstorms in the early part of next week. IMD has indicated that this spell of unseasonal rainfall is likely to taper off by March 25, after which temperatures may gradually rise.
Precautionary Measures for Residents
Given the forecasted weather conditions, residents are advised to take the following precautions:
- Stay indoors during thunderstorms and avoid venturing out unless necessary.
- Unplug electronic appliances to prevent damage caused by lightning surges.
- Avoid standing near tall objects, trees, or water bodies during a thunderstorm.
- Motorists should exercise caution, as sudden gusts of wind can make driving hazardous.
The anticipated rainfall is likely to bring temporary relief from the heat but may cause disruptions in daily activities, especially in low-lying areas prone to waterlogging. Farmers in the affected districts have been advised to safeguard their crops and take necessary precautions to prevent losses caused by strong winds and hailstorms.
As Hyderabad and other parts of Telangana brace for a stormy weekend, residents must stay updated with the latest weather advisories from IMD. Authorities have been directed to be on high alert, and disaster management teams are on standby to tackle any emergencies that may arise due to adverse weather conditions.
