P V Sindhu began her Hylo Open 2026 campaign with a straight-sets win over Prakriti Bharath, 21-10, 21-10 in 28 minutes, to reach the women's singles second round. The second-seeded Indian arrived in Saarbrücken, Germany, after finishing runner-up at the French Open, giving her another opportunity to build momentum on the BWF World Tour.
The double Olympic medallist controlled her opening match from the outset, preventing Bharath from mounting a sustained challenge. Her efficient performance also gave her a strong start in a tournament where she is among the leading contenders for the women's singles title.
PV Sindhu Starts Hylo Open With a Straight-Game Win
Sindhu's opening-round victory was built on consistency and control. She won both games by the same 21-10 scoreline, avoiding the need for a deciding game and keeping her time on court to just 28 minutes.
Her recent French Open campaign had already demonstrated her ability to compete deep into a tournament. Finishing runner-up there, Sindhu carried that form into Germany, where she began her Hylo Open campaign with a convincing result.
The Hylo Open is a BWF World Tour Super 500 event, making it an important opportunity for players to collect ranking points and test themselves against international competition. For Sindhu, a strong run would help maintain her momentum after the French Open final.

Malvika Bansod's campaign ended in the women's singles second round after she lost to Canada's Wen Yu Zhang in straight games.
Zhang won 21-11, 21-17 in a match lasting 31 minutes. Bansod struggled to match her opponent's intensity in the opening game, leaving herself with a significant deficit to overcome.
The Indian improved in the second game and managed to make the contest more competitive. However, Zhang maintained her advantage to close out the match without allowing Bansod to force a decider.
The result ended Bansod's run at the Super 500 tournament, while Zhang progressed in the women's singles draw.
Isharani Baruah Records an Opening-Round Victory
Isharani Baruah also featured in the women's singles competition, but her opening-round result differed from the exit described in some preliminary reports.
Baruah defeated Germany's Miranda Wilson 21-19, 21-9 to advance from the first round. The Indian secured the opening game narrowly before producing a more decisive performance in the second.
Her victory added another positive result for India's women's singles contingent at the tournament. The result also highlights why match-by-match verification is important when reporting on a competition with several Indian players in action.
What Sindhu's Hylo Open Campaign Means
Sindhu's opening victory followed her runner-up finish at the French Open and gave her a solid foundation for the rest of the tournament. Her ability to close out the match in two games also helped her avoid an extended contest at the beginning of the competition.
The next rounds represent a tougher test, as the field includes seeded players and international opponents capable of challenging India's leading shuttler. Sindhu's experience, built through years of competing at the highest level, remains one of her major strengths.
For Indian badminton fans, her progress is one of the key storylines to follow at the Hylo Open. However, her subsequent opponent and quarterfinal qualification should be reported only after the relevant match result is confirmed.
