By posting on social media handle X on Saturday, he said that he is free from political responsibilities. He has appealed to party president JP Nadda to relieve him of his duty. He also thanked PM Modi and Amit Shah. Gambhir is a Lok Sabha MP from East Delhi. It is clear from his post that he will not contest the general elections this time.

Gautam Gambhir political career
Gambhir's political career has lasted for about five years. On 22 March 2019, he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the presence of Union Ministers Arun Jaitley and Ravi Shankar Prasad. He got 696,158 votes in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. He defeated Congress leader Arvinder Singh Lovely and Aam Aadmi Party's Atishi Marlena from the East Delhi seat. Lovely got 3,04,934 votes and Atishi got 2,19,328 votes.

Gambhir also founded an NGO named 'Gautam Gambhir Foundation' to help poor and orphan children improve their future by providing them financial assistance. Besides, they bear the education expenses of the children of the soldiers martyred in the Naxalite attack in Sukma. Apart from this, with the help of public kitchen, food was provided to the poor at one rupee. He also checks it from time to time and is seen distributing the food with his own hands. In Janrasoi, those people who do not have money to buy food can eat a full meal for one rupee. He has opened five public kitchens so far. However, within five years he has become disillusioned with politics. Now he wants to turn towards cricket again. Gambhir was recently appointed mentor of Kolkata Knight Riders. Earlier he was the mentor of Lucknow Super Giants.

Gambhir has played 58 Tests, 147 ODIs, and 37 T20 matches for India. During this period, he scored 4154 runs in Tests at an average of 41.96, which included nine centuries and 22 half-centuries. His highest score is 206 runs. At the same time, in ODI he scored 5238 runs at an average of 39.68, which included 11 centuries and 34 half-centuries. His highest score in ODI is 150 runs. In T20, Gambhir scored 932 runs with the help of seven half-centuries.
