After Australia, India is set to become the second country in the world to shoulder the responsibility of hosting these games more than once. India previously successfully hosted the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi in 2010. Now, as the Games mark their 100th anniversary in 2030, the historic celebration will take place on Indian soil.

During the closing ceremony in Glasgow, Prince Edward, the Duke of Edinburgh and representative of Britain's King Charles III, officially announced the conclusion of the 2026 Games. India’s magnificent showcase of its rich cultural heritage, traditions, and modern outlook during the ceremony drew thunderous applause from the entire stadium. Through its presentation, India extended a grand invitation to athletes and spectators from around the world to visit Ahmedabad in 2030.

Commonwealth Flag Handed Over to Indian Sports Icons

Gold medalist boxer Jasmine Lamboria served as India's flag-bearer at the ceremony. During the formal flag handover ceremony, Glasgow's Lord Provost Jacqueline McLaren handed over the flag to Commonwealth Sport President Dr. Donald Rukare, two-time Olympic medalist Neeraj Chopra, Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President PT Usha, and Gujarat's Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi. Indian and Scottish artists also delivered a magnificent joint cultural performance during the event.
