Mohammad Saleem Safi is a premier right-arm fast bowler from Afghanistan who has captivated the cricketing world with his raw, blistering pace—frequently clocking near the 145 km/h mark—and an innate ability to extract natural swing. Born on September 9, 2002, in Baghlan, he rapidly scaled the ranks of domestic cricket to emerge as a genuine, strike-bowling threat. In a nation historically celebrated for nurturing world-class spin wizards, Saleem's arrival marked a crucial evolution for the Afghanistan national cricket team, providing them with a lethal, out-and-out fast-bowling asset capable of unsettling elite top-order batters.

His professional ascension began with a stellar First-class debut in early 2019 for Kunduz Province, which he quickly parlayed into impactful, high-velocity stints across the List A and T20 circuits. Destructive campaigns for Amo Region and the Boost Defenders in the Shpageeza Cricket League thrust him firmly into the national spotlight, earning him a reputation as one of the most feared young seamers in Afghan domestic cricket. Recognizing his generational talent, national selectors fast-tracked him into international contention, naming him in the 2021 Test squad against Zimbabwe and retaining him as a strategic reserve against heavyweights like Pakistan and the Netherlands before handing him his official ODI debut against Bangladesh in July 2023.

Seamlessly transitioning to all three formats of the game, Saleem earned his T20I stripes against India in January 2024, followed immediately by his maiden Test cap against Sri Lanka in February 2024. Though a severe groin injury in late 2025 threatened to stall his rapid upward trajectory—sidelining him from the tour against Bangladesh—he underwent rigorous rehabilitation at the ACB's High Performance Centre. He engineered a triumphant return to red-ball cricket when he was named to the squad for the one-off Test match against India in June 2026. On the grand stage of New Chandigarh, Saleem delivered a masterclass in stamina and discipline, tearing through a star-studded Indian batting lineup to secure a sensational, career-best maiden six-wicket Test haul (6 for 140).
