Major news has emerged regarding Pakistan's 32-year-old spin all-rounder, Mohammad Nawaz. The ICC has imposed a three-month ban on him for violating the anti-doping code.
Why Was Mohammad Nawaz Banned?
- Positive Test: Nawaz underwent a doping test following the match against the Netherlands in Colombo, Sri Lanka, during the T20 World Cup.
- Prohibited Substance: He tested positive for a 'Substance of Abuse' (Carboxy-THC).
- Admission of Guilt: Nawaz admitted his mistake and demonstrated that he had used the drug 'out-of-competition' (outside the tournament), meaning it had no bearing on enhancing his sporting performance.

A point of relief for Nawaz is that this penalty can be reduced:
- His voluntary provisional suspension began on May 1, 2026, which has been marked as the official start of his ban.
- After accepting the penalty and agreeing to the rehabilitation program, his provisional suspension was lifted upon the completion of two and a half months of the ban.
- If Nawaz completes his 'Substance of Abuse Treatment Program' to the ICC's satisfaction, his ban will be reduced to just one month, and he will not have to serve the remaining period.
Impact on Mohammad Nawaz's Career Stats and Disqualification
In accordance with ICC regulations, all matches played by Nawaz between February 7 (the match against the Netherlands) and May 1, 2026, have been disqualified (invalidated). This means that any runs scored or wickets taken by Nawaz during this period will not be included in his official career statistics.
