WIPL, Adani buys Ahmedabad franchise for Rs 1289 crore

Five franchises of women's IPL have got owners. Adani bought the Ahmedabad franchise with the most expensive bid of Rs 1289 crore. BCCI got huge benefit from the bidding and earned Rs 4699.99 crore.

Five franchises of the much-awaited women's IPL have found their owners. Adani Sportsline Pvt Ltd has bought the ownership rights of the Ahmedabad franchise by making the most expensive bid of Rs 1289 crore.

The Mumbai franchise became the second costliest team with a bid of Rs 919.99 crore by IndiaWin Sports Pvt Ltd, the sports wing of Reliance Industries Limited. The Bangalore franchise was bought by Royal Challengers Sports Pvt Ltd with a bid of Rs 901 crore. JSW GMR Cricket Pvt Ltd bought the Delhi franchise with a bid of Rs 810 crore.

Capri Global Holdings Pvt Ltd bought the ownership rights of the Lucknow franchise for Rs 757 crore. BCCI secretary Jay Shah has confirmed through social media that it is a historic day where the board earned huge amount from five bids. Shah has also confirmed that the women's IPL will be called the Women's Premier League.

Jay Shah tweeted, 'Today is a historic day in cricket as the inaugural edition of the Women's Premier League saw teams bid a record and broke the record set by the inaugural edition of the men's IPL in 2008. Congratulations to the winners as we have received total bids of Rs.4669.99 crores. This is the beginning of a revolution in women's cricket and will pave the way for change not only for our women cricketers, but the entire sporting world involved. The Women's Premier League will bring much-needed reforms in women's cricket and ensure that every stakeholder benefits.

Explain that a total of 5 teams will participate in the inaugural edition of the Women's Premier League. BCCI will soon announce the schedule of the upcoming tournament. The players' auction will be held next month. According to the Cricbuzz report, the franchise will have a purse of Rs 12 crore for the WPL 2023 auction.

In 2024, it will be increased to Rs 13.5 crore. Then in 2026 it will be increased to 16.5 crores and in 2027 it will be increased to 18 crores. Cricbuzz reports that 5 foreign players will be allowed in the playing XI of WPL. The tournament will reportedly be held from March 4 to 26 and all the matches will be played in Mumbai.
