Jay Shah on IPL and WPL start: The Women's Premier League (WPL) auction was organized in Mumbai on Saturday. On this occasion, Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Jai Shah talked about the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Shah confirmed that the IPL will start at the end of March 2024 and end in the last week of May or first week of June. According to BCCI, IPL auction will be held in Dubai on December 19, for which a total of 1166 players have registered themselves.
This will be the first time that the auction will be organized across the country. 10 teams together will spend Rs 262.95 crore and bet on 1166 players. A total of 77 slots will be filled, which will include 30 foreign players.
Along with this, while talking about the upcoming WPL, Jay Shah said that it will start on 2nd or 3rd February. While talking to journalists, Shah said that due to some logistical challenges, this time also it has been decided to organize WPL in one state only.
However, the possibilities of organizing the league in other cities will also be considered for the future. Shah said that the venue of the WPL will be decided only after discussions between BCCI and the franchises.
In such a situation, there is a possibility that this time the league matches can be organized in Mumbai or Bengaluru. The first season of the WPL was held between 4 and 26 March at the DY Patil Stadium and Brabourne Stadium.
