Asian Games 2026The Indian cricket team has won the men's T20 gold medal at the 2026 Asian Games as well. Team India, the defending champions from the previous Asian Games, secured the gold medal for the second consecutive time. They defeated Pakistan by 19 runs in the gold medal match.
With this victory, India has bagged its 19th gold medal at the Aichi-Nagoya Games. Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma, Washington Sundar, and Shivam Dube were the stars of the Indian team's triumph. Meanwhile, Pakistan's dream of winning its first gold medal at the 2026 Asian Games was shattered.
Explosive Batting by Abhishek and Tilak
Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Abhishek Sharma got Team India off to a flying start, smashing 28 runs in just two overs. However, Vaibhav was dismissed in the third over, and Sanju Samson also did not last long.
Abhishek Sharma, meanwhile, continued his explosive batting and completed his half-century in just 20 balls. He hammered 61 runs off only 28 deliveries, hitting 7 sixes and 3 fours.
However, Ishan Kishan and captain Shreyas Iyer could not make a significant impact thereafter. It was ultimately Tilak Varma—who smashed 51 runs off just 22 balls and Shivam Dube who scored 27 off 15 balls who propelled the team to a total of 211 runs. For Pakistan, Abrar Ahmed (1/27) and Arafat Minhas (2/25) were the most effective bowlers.
Nawaz Raises the Stakes, Then Team India Clinches the Win
On the other hand, Pakistan did not get off to a great start either, losing three wickets for just 39 runs. Axar Patel (2/29) claimed two of these wickets, while Washington Sundar (2/29) picked up one. However, Hasan Nawaz then launched an aggressive counter-attack, raining down fours and sixes on the Indian bowlers.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi had dropped a catch early in Nawaz's innings when he was on just 4 runs. Capitalizing on this reprieve, Nawaz completed his half-century off 28 balls and kept steering the team towards the target.
Nawaz, partnering with Saim Ayub for an 87-run stand, brought Pakistan back into the contest. Shivam Dube broke the partnership by dismissing Ayub, but India's troubles were far from over.
Then, in the 18th and 19th overs, Sundar and Jasprit Bumrah conceded only 19 runs combined, leaving Pakistan needing 33 runs off the final over. Dube (2/33) ensured this didn't happen; he dismissed Nawaz for 96 (51 balls, 7 sixes, 5 fours) on the last ball, restricting Pakistan to a total of 192 runs.
