Sri Lankan star batsman Kamindu Mendis has become the fastest Asian batsman to score 1000 runs in Tests. Mendis left behind legendary batsmen like Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli and Sunil Gavaskar. Mendis touched the 1000 run mark during the second Test being played against New Zealand in Galle.
The Sri Lankan batsman did the feat of scoring 1000 runs in 13 innings of 8 Tests. Through this figure, Mendis equaled former Australian great batsman Sir Don Bradman. Don Bradman had touched this figure in 13 innings of 7 Tests.
Mendis has come at number three in the list of batsmen who scored the fastest 1000 runs in Tests. Former England batsman Herbert Sutcliffe and former West Indies batsman Everton Weeks are at the top of this list. Both batsmen had touched the 1000 run mark in 12 innings of 9 Tests.
