However, before this, reports are claiming that a deal has been struck between BCCI and Gautam Gambhir regarding the head coach. The curtain is yet to be lifted on this. However, there is no official confirmation yet as to when Gambhir has applied.
According to the Cricbuzz report: it is being claimed that Gautam Gambhir is a big contender for this post. Monday, May 27, was the last date to apply for the coach's post. It is expected that Gambhir has formally applied for this post. However, this has not been confirmed by Gambhir and the board.
Cricbuzz's report also states that an IPL franchise owner who is very close to the top level officials of BCCI told Cricbuzz that the deal to appoint Gambhir as the head coach has been done and the announcement is yet to be made. At the same time, a high-profile TV commentator who is well aware of the activities happening in BCCI said that efforts are being made to appoint Gambhir as the head coach.
The tenure of the current head coach Rahul Dravid will end after the T20 World Cup 2024. Whoever becomes the head coach of the Indian team after him, his tenure will be from 1 July 2024 to 31 December 2027. There will also be 14-16 support staff along with the head coach.
