WPL 2027 Retention Updates: Excitement is building around the fifth edition the 2027 season of the Women's Premier League (WPL). All five franchises will release their final lists of retained players today. Cricket fans and the franchises themselves are keenly watching to see which players are backed by the teams and which ones are released into the auction pool.

According to BCCI regulations, a franchise can include a maximum of 18 players in its squad. Of these, a maximum of six overseas players are permitted. Once the retention list is finalized, it will become clear how much of their auction purse remains for each team.

The player auction for the Women's Premier League 2027 will be held in Kochi next month, on October 28. Following this, the main TATA WPL 2027 tournament is scheduled to take place next year, running from January 14 to February 7.

- Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB): Defending champions RCB will aim to retain their core squad and key players. However, the team will also be keen to bring in new faces during the auction to bolster its squad depth.
- Mumbai Indians (MI): The squad of the two-time champions, Mumbai Indians, is already considered quite strong; however, considering the results and performance of the previous season, the team might look to bet on some new, young options in the auction.
- UP Warriorz: After a disappointing performance last season, the UP Warriorz team appears poised for significant changes this time around. The team management will aim to build a balanced and fresh combination by inducting new talent.
- Delhi Capitals & Gujarat Giants: Overseas players have always played a pivotal role in the performance of both these teams. It will be interesting to see the strategies and coordination with which these franchises utilize their overseas slots.
