Abhishek Sharma Registers Unwanted T20I Record: India delivered a stellar performance against Zimbabwe, completing a clean sweep (3-0) in the three-match T20I series. However, the bat of the team's star opener, Abhishek Sharma, remained completely silent throughout the tour. Abhishek struggled across the series, managing to score only 11 runs in three matches.

He scored 1 run off 8 balls in the first T20I, 8 runs off 8 balls in the second match, and just 2 runs off 4 balls in the third encounter. Interestingly and surprisingly, Zimbabwean fast bowler Blessing Muzarabani claimed his wicket in all three matches.

With this disappointing performance against Zimbabwe, 25-year-old Abhishek Sharma has set a rather embarrassing record. He has become the Indian batter with the fewest runs scored in a single T20I series (spanning at least 3 innings). He broke the seven-year-old record held by Shreyas Iyer, who had scored 14 runs against the West Indies in 2019.

  • 11 runs - Abhishek Sharma vs Zimbabwe (2026)
  • 14 runs - Shreyas Iyer vs West Indies (2019)
  • 15 runs - Hardik Pandya vs New Zealand (2017)
  • 15 runs - KL Rahul vs England (2021)
  • 17 runs - Dinesh Karthik vs Australia (2022)

Lowest Runs by an Indian Opener in a T20I Series

In addition to topping this list, Abhishek Sharma has also become the Indian opener with the lowest run tally in a three-match T20I series.

In doing so, he broke the record held by former opener Shikhar Dhawan, who had scored 19 runs against England in 2018. Meanwhile, Ishan Kishan had scored 24 runs as an opener against New Zealand in 2022.

Abhishek Sharma's T20I Form Slump Since T20 World Cup 2026

Abhishek Sharma's form has been a cause for concern since the 2026 T20 World Cup. In the 10 T20I matches he has played for India since then, he has managed to score only one half-century. Moreover, he has failed to even reach double figures in his last four innings. This marks the first time in his T20I career that he has been dismissed for a single-digit score in four consecutive matches.
