Abhishek Sharma CenturyA six off a short ball, a six off an overpitched delivery, a six off a good-length ball Abhishek Sharma absolutely demolished every delivery bowled to him in Wellington. Playing an explosive innings, Abhishek smashed a century in just 35 balls. With this, he achieved the feat of scoring the fastest century by an Indian player on foreign soil.
Previously, Abhishek had also scored a century in 30 balls a feat he accomplished against Afghanistan in Delhi. Now, he has gone on to smash the fastest century in New Zealand.
Abhishek Sharma’s Record-Breaking Batting
In his innings, Abhishek Sharma struck 11 sixes and 9 fours, scoring 113 runs off just 38 balls. With this performance, he set several records. He became the only batter to score two T20 International centuries in 35 balls or fewer.
Furthermore, Abhishek Sharma has surpassed Virat Kohli in terms of the total number of T20 centuries scored; he has now reached 11 centuries in T20 cricket, while Virat has 10. Abhishek also now has four T20 International centuries to his name—just one shy of Rohit Sharma, who has achieved this feat five times.
Glenn Maxwell has also scored five T20 International centuries. Abhishek Sharma explained that his plan was quite simple: he wanted to go out to the pitch and play freely. That was the strategy, and fortunately, he succeeded in executing it.
India wins, powered by Abhishek
Riding on a record-breaking innings from Abhishek Sharma, the Indian team defeated New Zealand by 6 wickets in Wellington. India chased down a target of 199 runs in just 13.2 overs. With this, Team India has secured an unassailable 3-0 lead in the series.
The remaining two T20 matches are now merely a formality. However, given the form the Indian team is currently displaying, it appears they will be aiming for a clean sweep against New Zealand.
