The mother of Australia's regular Test captain Pat Cummins has passed away. She was battling illness for a long time. Cricket Australia gave this information by tweeting on Friday morning. Before the start of the second day's play of the fourth Test between India and Australia, Cricket Australia had told that their players would wear black armbands as a mark of respect for Cummins and his family. In such a situation, Usman Khawaja and Cameron Green came to bat on the field with black armbands.

Cummins had flown back home after the second Test to be with his ailing mother. Cummins' mother was placed in palliative care. Explaining his decision to leave India, Cummins had said – I feel good here with my family. I appreciate the support I have received from Cricket Australia and my teammates. thanks for understanding me.

The 29-year-old had revealed that her mother, who was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005, had been battling a serious illness in recent weeks. On 26 November 2021, Cummins was announced as the 47th captain of the Australian Test team following the resignation of veteran wicketkeeper-batsman Tim Paine. He is the first fast bowler to hold the role of full-time Australian Test captain.
