IND vs WI 3rd ODI: A three-match ODI series is currently underway between India and the West Indies. Team India has already secured an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series, and the third and final match is scheduled to be played on October 3 in Mullanpur, New Chandigarh.
Ahead of this match, the Caribbean camp has suffered a major setback. A star player from the team has been ruled out of the game. This player had scored a century in the very first match of the series but was unable to take the field in the second match due to an injury.
Star Player Ruled Out of Third ODI
According to media reports, West Indies' 32-year-old star all-rounder Justin Greaves—who has been in good form—has not fully recovered from a calf injury and has been ruled out of the third ODI.
Greaves' withdrawal just the night before the match deals a significant blow to the visiting team's batting balance. Earlier in the current tour, Justin Greaves had proven himself to be one of the West Indies' strongest and most aggressive batters.
He played a magnificent century in the first ODI held in Thiruvananthapuram, putting the Indian bowlers on the back foot. However, he suffered a calf strain during that innings, which caused him to miss the second ODI played in Guwahati earlier this week. Keacy Carty, who replaced him in the second match, failed to make a significant impact and was dismissed for 9 runs off just 10 balls.
Justin Greaves not yet match-fit
An assessment by the medical team revealed that Greaves' injury has not yet fully healed. Consequently, the team management has decided not to field him in Mullanpur. In this scenario, Keacy Carty could once again be included in the playing XI, presenting a major opportunity for him to prove himself.
