Jhye Richardson suffered a hamstring injury during the BBL. Due to this injury, he has been ruled out of the final match between Western Australia and South Australia. Richardson has not played a match since January 4. Initially it was found that Richardson's injury was not serious and he would return for the BBL finals, but it took him two months to recover.
Richardson did not play any BBL final and Marsh Cup or Sheffield Shield matches thereafter. However, Jhye Richardson was included in the 16-member Australian squad for the three-match ODI series against India from 17 March. Nathan Ellis, who played three ODIs for Australia, has been included as Richardson's replacement.
Richardson returned to competitive cricket on Saturday and played a 50-over match for his team Fremantle in Perth. Richardson was expected to play in the Marsh Cup final before leaving for India. However, Richardson could only bowl 4 overs in the club match, taking three wickets for five runs. Then he went off the field and was scanned. Richardson then went to the WACA Ground, where he consulted the WA medical staff.
Recall that Richardson suffered a shoulder injury in 2019, after which he was troubled by injuries for two seasons. He took 5 wickets in an innings in the Test match against England in Adelaide in December 2021, but he was ruled out of the next Test due to a heel injury and has not returned to Test cricket since then.
Richardson took part in the T20 International and ODI series in June 2022 on the tour of Sri Lanka, but he was injured again in October. Since then he could play only two matches.
