In a massive blow to India’s white-ball tour of the UK, all-rounder Nitish Reddy has been ruled out of the upcoming T20I series against Ireland and England due to a left quadriceps injury. The 23-year-old has been replaced in the T20I squad by Mumbai's dynamic big-hitter Suryansh Shedge.
Reddy, who was picked for both the ODI and T20I legs of the tour, reportedly experienced discomfort following the third ODI against Afghanistan on June 20.
"Nitish reported left quadriceps discomfort after the third ODI against Afghanistan. Following a subsequent medical assessment, the BCCI Medical Team has recommended a period of rehabilitation, ruling him out of both T20I series," the BCCI stated in an official media release.
While Reddy misses the T20Is, his availability for the three-match ODI series against England — starting July 14 in Birmingham - remains subject to fitness.
A Continuous Battle with Fitness
This injury adds to a frustrating year of fitness setbacks for the Sunrisers Hyderabad all-rounder:
- IPL 2025: Fitness issues restricted him to bowling just 5 overs across 13 matches.
- England Test Tour: Ruled out midway due to a knee injury.
- IPL 2026: SRH bowling coach James Franklin had recently praised Reddy for ramping up his pace and bowling workload, making this fresh setback incredibly poorly timed just as he was gaining momentum.
Suryansh Shedge Earns a Well-Deserved Call-Up
Suryansh Shedge steps into the national squad riding on a wave of spectacular domestic and franchise form. The 23-year-old middle-order batter has been a standout performer across formats:
| Tournament | Performance Highlights |
|---|---|
| India 'A' Tri-Series (Sri Lanka) | 147 runs in 5 matches + 23 overs bowled |
| Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (2024-25) | 131 runs at a massive 251.92 strike rate for champions Mumbai |
| IPL 2026 (Punjab Kings) | 158 runs in 7 matches at a 175.56 strike rate |
Shedge’s ability to act as a destructive finisher in the lower-middle order alongside his handy bowling makes him a like-for-like tactical replacement as India prepares for the English conditions.
