Vaibhav Suryavanshi could soon be seen making his debut for Team India. The Indian team is set to play a T20 series against Ireland, with two matches scheduled for June 26 and 28. Before that, 15-year-old Vaibhav has a major reason to celebrate, as he has received his official Team India jersey. However, it is his jersey number that is generating more buzz than the jersey itself.

The BCCI shared a video clip on social media showing Raghu, a member of the Indian support staff, visiting Vaibhav Suryavanshi in his hotel room. The video revealed that Vaibhav will wear the number 3 jersey in international cricket—distinct from the number 12 jersey he wore while playing for the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL. Legendary Indian players like Harbhajan Singh and Suresh Raina have previously worn the number 3 jersey.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi's mother is behind the change in his jersey number. Before playing in the 'Rising Stars Asia Cup' last year, Vaibhav had remarked that there was no point in wearing the number 12 jersey; he reasoned that since adding 1 and 2 yields the number 3, a two-digit number served no real purpose.

15-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi has made a sensational impact in the tri-series. Although he had managed to score only 117 runs in the first four matches of the series, he created history in the final—precisely when the team needed him most—by smashing 94 runs off just 29 balls. During this innings, he completed his half-century in merely 11 balls, recording the fastest fifty in List-A cricket history.

It is worth noting that the first batch of the Indian team has already departed for the opening T20 match against Ireland on June 26. Vaibhav's parents will also be accompanying him on this tour.
